5 Steps of the Die Casting Process How It Works

For us newbies, Die Casting Part means that the gravity die casting process is a highly technical and complex process, however in reality, it is actually very simple. Think of it as a conversion method or method of turning one thing into another; that is, turning molten liquid metal such as aluminum or zinc into a metal casting or component. This transformation is permanent, and it can be broken down into a few easy to understand steps.
In the following article, let`s look at the details of these steps, explain how the gravity Metal Machining Part process works, and outline what types of products it can be used to create.
5 Step Guide to Gravity Die Casting Step by Step
Step 1: Prepare
Before the gravity casting process begins, the first step is to prepare the mold itself. Basically, this involves heating it to the right temperature and spraying it with a refractory coating or lubricant. This lubricant not only maintains the temperature of the mold during the manufacturing process, but also prevents premature solidification and aids in the removal of the casting once it has solidified. The two halves of the mold can be closed using high pressure and clamped tightly together.
Step 2: Injection
After this preparation stage, the molten metal is removed from the furnace and poured directly into the mold through a downward facing gate. This can be done manually or, in some cases, using an automatic pouring bucket; but regardless, the process utilizes gravity. No additional force or pressure is applied. The molten liquid is simply inserted into the mold from an upright, vertical position and works its way downwards into the casting due to the natural pull of gravity. By avoiding the use of high pressure, turbulence is greatly reduced, which in turn helps prevent porosity and results in the production of smoother components and parts.
Step 3: Cool down
Once the molten metal is inserted into the casting, it is cooled and solidified. The metal should be given enough time to form the shape of the mold and needs to solidify completely before untying the mold. Removing a casting prematurely can cause irreversible defects.
Step 4: Demold
After sufficient time has elapsed, the two halves of the mold are loosened and opened, and the casting is carefully removed. This can be done by hand or, in some cases, using an ejection pin to safely push the casting out of the gravity Aluminum Alloy Die casting machine.
Step 5: Trim

The final stage of the gravity casting process is trimming. As the metal continues to cool, any scrap metalincluding sprues, runners, sprues and burrs is professionally removed from the casting. Various tools are used to remove any sharp edges and excess material to create the desired part shape, and the parts are typically cleaned before being shipped to the customer.
